About

I am an artist, writer, and educator with a holistic approach to teaching writing, story/creative development, professional development, film, animation, and sound. Through a non-hierarchical classroom, I create an environment for students to learn not only from me, but from each other in equal parts. This flexibility in the classroom allows for unanticipated and important territory to be explored with every class. I employ individual meetings as time allows for mutual understanding to be reached to earn trust. I expect my students to come to each class and assignment giving their best, while also allowing for grace when needed. I encourage my students to explore their own identity and inner-life to help inform the work they do. I am dedicated to representing diversity through readings, viewings, and guest lecturers.

My practice encompasses experimental animation, drawing, and writing with line and improvisation at the core of the work.  My creative perspective is shaped by my Italian-American heritage and my rural upbringing, which carries with it a deep sense of tradition, storytelling, and an enduring connection to family and place. Additionally critical was a long-term illness that changed my perspective for better and for worse. For the better, it enables me to embrace the transformation, ambiguity, and possibility of an existence that is in-between any two opposites.  In reveling in the many uncertainties, my creative practices reflect my ruminations on our crumbling social systems, climate crisis, and emotional fallout as collateral damage. I tap into meditation and improvisation practices to create my work, with the full breadth of the work done almost like a well-kept secret. For my animation practice specifically, I have no formal training and so approach the practice of animation with an outsider technique and perspective.
